Q&A: Krankbrother

Our friends krankbrother know a thing or two about throwing the ultimate party…which is why they’ve been an essential ingredient of Lovebox for years now.

#Lovebox16 sees the brothers and DJ duo take over the Kopparberg Urban Forest on the Friday, with a billing led by the legendary Heidi plus Dutch stars Tom Trago, William Kouam Djoko and Cinnaman.

We spoke to Danny of krankbrother about what we can expect when they take over the Kopparberg Urban Forest, and what makes them experts on an unforgettable party…

Talk us through your Kopparberg Urban Forest lineup at Lovebox?
It’s a real mix of styles. We’ve got our old friend Heidi bringing her take on jacking house, Paul Woolford bringing the huge festival numbers and then the three Dutchies, all making their krankbrother debut who we’re really excited to see!

You’ve had a relationship with Lovebox for a while now. What are one of your best memories from the festival?
So many good memories but maybe one of the best was the year when it was crazy hot and we played with Frankie Knuckles and Derrick Carter. There was so much dust in our arena it felt like Burning Man!

What makes a good krankbrother party?
A unique venue, open minded crowd and DJs that are confident enough to do the unexpected.

What would be your dream lineup?
DJ Harvey, Andrew Weatherall, Nobu, Levon Vincent, Nick Hoppner, Four Tet…
The list goes on but I guess I have to stop somewhere!

What’s one particular set at a Krankbrother party that sticks out in your mind?
Efdemin’s set at our recent show in May. Hard, fast techno with the odd beautiful melody creating some epic moments!

Track of the summer?
Terry Lee Brown Jnr – Tribal Nova – not a new one but it’s been getting a lot of love this summer!

Track that never fails to get everyone on the dancefloor?
Aleckxis Jaina – They Call Me.

What’s next for Krankbrother?
We’ve got 6 more shows in London in 2016, lots more gigs and festivals further afield and two more EPs to release on our label so plenty to keep us busy….!
