The Fedz

Noisey

Friday

The FEDz are a daring UK collective Godfathered by 2 seminal producers: James Poyser (Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, Jill Scott) & Dennis Bovell (The Slits, Pop Group, Neneh Cherry). The collective comprises 13 young creatives based in London who met at a recording studio in Acton: singers, DJs, rappers, musicians, artists, designers, videographers….

The philosophy was simple: Music that didn’t require gimmicks for success – to be heard first and seen later. So with the aid of some well-heeled-folks, they tracked down James Poyser and Dennis Bovell, who loved the energy and asked to hear more. So the collective got down to work with Dennis, produced a batch of demos, then sent them to James in NYC. He was blown away and jumped on the tracks instantly, adding his magic along with other members of The Roots. This proved to be a wonderful process, and the collaborative process continued, helping shape the whole album.

To complement their fearless approach they then embarked on a series of daring guerrilla street events that cemented the FEDz philosphy. Inspired by the old school reggae soundsystems, the group rigged up their own flat bed truck and were once again heard first and seen later.

Catch The Fedz at Lovebox this summer.
